For those whose idea of athletic accomplishment involves distance, discipline and strength… winter’s answer is Nordic skiing, and the first snowfall means getting back out on the trails! Nordic or “cross country” athletes have long been heralded as leaders in aerobic power output and rank among the best athletes in the world of endurance sports. The same is true for adaptive Nordic skiers.
Northeast Passage has been a leader in forwarding the sport of Adaptive Nordic Skiing in New England. We provide beginner level instruction, as well as ongoing coaching and athlete development. We work closely with local ski areas, the New England Nordic Ski Association, and local race organizers regarding competitive venues.
The Northeast Passage Adaptive Nordic Ski Team is made up of both UNH student athletes as well as athletes from the New England area. The team competes locally in races throughout New England as well as nationally, based on qualifying performance.
Athletes train both independently and as a team during the fall (dryland training) and winter seasons. During the fall and winter seasons the team meets weekly for either dryland or on snow training. Athletes can attend our annual on snow training camp to focus on skill development with access to both Northeast Passage coaching staff as well as US Adaptive Team development coaches.

Northeast Passage, UNH Athletics, and the Paralympics: Northeast Passage, UNH Athletics, and U.S. Paralympics have joined forces to create a unique model for Adaptive Nordic Skiing athlete development. While our adaptive Nordic ski team is open to all participants, it provides some athletes the unique opportunity to be a college student and pursue elite level Adaptive Nordic skiing at the same time, without compromise. These student athletes have access to the same facilities and coaching as their able bodied counterparts. This benefit, combined with Northeast Passage’s Paralympic Sport Club status, allows these same athletes the opportunity to work with and mentor the next generation of Nordic skiers. Please see the Athlete Development page for more information on this program or contact Northeast Passage directly.
Private instruction is available upon request/availability. Call Northeast Passage (603-862-0070) if you are interested in a private lesson or equipment demo.
