Internships
Northeast Passage offers a competitive recreation therapy internship opportunity to students from across the country in the fall and spring academic semesters (summer internships are rare and are accepted at the discretion of NEP staff).
The eight supervising licensed and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists on staff at Northeast Passage are presently working in home/community and school based settings, providing recreation therapy interventions.
Interns will be involved in assessing participant needs, planning individualized programs and activities, working directly with participants in program implementation and documenting progress for participant evaluation. Interns will also be involved in program promotion, marketing, planning and conducting events, fundraising, outreach and advocacy, and direct services to individuals with disabilities in a variety of outdoor and recreational settings and school programs.
Internships are offered in compliance with current NCTRC standards.
Application Deadlines:
Fall Semester (September – December): May 15
Spring Semester (January – May):September 30
Please contact us by February 15 if you are interested in a summer internship.
Prospective interns are encouraged to volunteer for Northeast Passage programs and events prior to submitting their application.
Northeast Passage does provide a small stipend for the semester, but does not provide housing for interns.
Internship priority is given to students studying therapeutic recreation. If we have availability during a given semester, we will accept students from other disciplines (such as exercise science or outdoor education, etc) pending we can meet your school’s requirements. Please contact us to discuss this option.
If you would like to submit an application to complete your internship with us, contact the Internship Coordinator at the Northeast Passage office.
