STRATHAM — Lucas Currier has always been a sports kid.
The eighth grader from Newfields grew up playing soccer and baseball, sticking with each sport even as Duchenne muscular dystrophy destroyed his muscles and made it more almost impossible. When he could no longer run, his teammates stepped in to run bases for him. When standing became too much, he became a coach for the team.
Lucas remained positive, always ready with a smile, but he longed to play sports.
