General

You guys are cool. Is there another organization that does what you do?
Thanks! No, unfortunately, we haven’t found another organization that offers the spectrum of services that we do. Our three program areas are: Adaptive Sports & RecreationRecreational Therapy and Teaching & Research. There are lots of adaptive sports organizations around the country that offer various sports opportunities, but we have not found another organization that offers the range of services available at Northeast Passage. Please do call us though, we’re happy to help you problem-solve from a distance!

What’s the age range of participants?
Our youngest participant is 5, our oldest is 92.

Where do participants come from?
Our participants come from all over New England, and it’s not unusual for people to travel long distances to see us. We frequently see participants from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and beyond.

Where are you located?
We are located on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. We do not have any other satellite locations. Please see the Contact us page for directions.

Events

How do I know what you have going on?
You can always check the calendar on our website for current programs and events. Events are updated as schedules are released. We also send full sports schedules by email. Please join our mailing list!

How do I sign up for an event?
Please call the Northeast Passage office at 603-862-0070 or email us at northeast.passage@unh.edu.

Can my family or friends accompany me to your events? Can they participate?
Yes! We always welcome friends and family. As far as participation, it depends on the sport and equipment/time availability. Please contact us if you have specific questions.

Equipment

Do you ship your equipment?
No. Our equipment is in high demand and we do not have the supplies available to be able to ship our equipment.

Can I take your equipment with me on a plane (or in a car)?
Yes – We will try our best to accommodate your vacation. Please contact us to discuss your specific request, as we can not always guarantee availability. Reserve early!

Can I rent something longer than 2 weeks?
Sometimes – During the off season, we often let people take equipment for longer than two weeks, but as our equipment is in high demand for both our programs and rentals, we don’t often make exceptions to this rule during the equipment’s peak season.

Do you sell equipment? Do you ever sell your used equipment?
We do not sell equipment. We are happy to make recommendations for our preferred vendors. We rarely sell our used equipment, but when we do, we will send an announcement to individuals on our email mailing list.

Where do you get all of the equipment?
We have acquired the majority of our equipment through grant awards. We purchase equipment from various adapted and typical outdoor equipment vendors. Please contact us if you’re interested in finding out where to purchase pieces.

Funding

What’s your relationship with UNH?
Northeast Passage is a program of the University of New Hampshire. Learn more about our relationship with UNH.

Are you a 501c3 non-profit organization?
Yes. We are a 501c3 through UNH and the UNH Foundation. All donations are tax-deductible and directly support our adaptive sports and recreation programs. You will not find Northeast Passage listed separately in any IRS databases or sites like GuideStar or Network for Good, because of our status as a program of UNH.

Do you need funding from outside sources?
Yes! While UNH covers approximately one-third of our operating budget, the Northeast Passage staff is responsible for securing all program costs, etc.

Where do you receive funding?
We have developed a multifaceted strategy to generate funds to support our mission. This includes support from corporate sponsors and individuals, fees for services, fundraising events, and grants.
