As a program of the University of New Hampshire, we provide field-based Practicum opportunities to fulfill student academic requirements.
Northeast Passage Practicum positions require individuals who are dependable, professional and flexible with time schedules (i.e. mornings, evenings, weekdays, and weekends). Practicum applicants are not required to have established skills in the programming areas, but will be asked to complete assigned online education and training materials.
Northeast Passage may provide transportation for student volunteers to Northeast Passage programs if available. Practicum students must be self-starters and independently communicate with their Practicum Supervisors to meet their practicum requirement. Northeast Passage reserves the right to terminate practicums who haven’t demonstrated the above or fail to show up for scheduled commitments.
Practicum duties may include:
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programming
- Set-up & cleanup of specific activities
- Management of adaptive equipment including loading/unloading, inspection and maintenance.
- Assisting participants with transfers, equipment fittings/adaptations, etc.
- Skill instruction or support
- Group management
- Volunteer Coordination/Supervision
Northeast Passage offers two Practicum tracks:
Adaptive Sports & Recreation
If you are interested in a Practicum position in our Adaptive Sports & Recreation programs, please fill out this application. Once your application is approved, you will be able to sign up for events that match your interest and schedule. You must proactively sign up for the appropriate number of events to fulfill your hours requirement.
We encourage you to choose one program (sport) and be consistent, particularly in our Competitive programs. This will allow you to learn all components of the program and is most beneficial for NEP and the people we serve. You are welcome to fill in missing hours with other programs you are interested in.
We will provide you with access to a Canvas course to review information prior to service at programs.
Clinical Based
If you are interested in a Practicum position within our school or community based Recreational Therapy programs, please download and fill in the application here and follow the instructions for submission. Our Clinical Practicum positions require a selective process including an interview and review of your availability to match with our scheduled interventions.
